Chronicles of Devon Blurb
WHAT COMES after happily ever after...?
On paper, Devon Wardell has everything he ever wanted. The girl of his dreams, the job he trained for, the family he never hoped he could have. So why is everything starting to unravel?
After rescuing the city of London and pulling back the supernatural community from the brink of destruction, the famous friends had hoped to settle into their normal routine. Vivian is gone, the secret is protected, and despite the perpetual chaos that’s hounded them since Guilder, each one has survived to fight another day. But a new threat is always on the horizon, and the agents of the Privy Council can never stay idle for long.
Torn between the dangers at work and the stresses at home, Devon finds himself struggling to keep his head above water. With his wife away on assignment and a series of dark coincidences piling up in London, he finds himself wondering if there are darker forces at play.
When you’re born with a tatù, is there such a thing as normal? How does one manage to be a father and a superhero at the same time? Every day the stakes are getting higher.
How long before that delicate balance finally breaks?

Chapter 1
An explosion ripped apart the sky as a motorcycle burst onto the street.
There was no way to tell where it was coming from, no way to tell where it was going. The only thing that registered was the speed. It was a speed that was advertised, but never encouraged. A speed that would surely have killed anyone who happened across it, but the sun had gone down an hour before and there was no one within miles of the deserted London street.
A shadow flickered across the biker’s helmet. He turned his head a quarter of an inch.
The streets themselves were deserted, but the same didn’t apply to the sky. A man was running along the rooftops, jumping from building to building. He was gaining on the bike.
An engine revved and the pair shot forward, propelled with the same impossible momentum as the city flew past in a blur. Street lamps’ glow streaked like rain across the helmet. The rooftop man was nothing but shadow, dark hair whipping behind him in the breeze.
There was a fork in the road, approaching fast. The man on the bike twisted an arm behind him, extending two fingers, and the pair veered suddenly to the right. A shower of sparks flew off the motorcycle. The man on the roof leapt into the air, landing on the other side of the street.
Somewhere in the distance, a bell was chiming. A new sense of urgency took hold and they pushed themselves even faster, streaking with a roar and a whisper through the starless night.
A little farther...just a little farther...
The silhouette of a woman appeared in the road. There was a screech of tires as the motorcycle slid to a dangerous stop in front of her, blowing her hair back in a windswept cloud.
She popped a bubble of chewing gum, then glanced at her watch.
“...fifty-two.”
The momentum vanished on a dime as the biker yanked off his helmet with a curse. Waves of onyx hair framed a face that was both lovely and furious, those dark eyes fixed upon his wife.
“Come on—seriously?!” he cried. “That’s more than ten seconds off—”
A man landed on the sidewalk beside him, touching his fingers to the pavement before lifting gracefully to his feet. The imprint of a fox burned on his forearm, a warning of overuse.
“What was it?” he asked breathlessly.
“Don’t tell him,” the psychic warned. At the same time, the woman tossed back her ivory hair with a gloating, “Fifty-two.”
There was a moment of silence. Then—
“Are you KIDDING me?!”
Julian dropped the helmet to the sidewalk, rubbing the sides of his eyes. “That’s why you shouldn’t tell him...”
“How did you not see that coming?” Devon accused, shoving his partner into the bike. “We could have feigned injury, started again. We could have started the fire ourselves!”
Angel glanced down at her nails, trying to control her expression. “You could always ask me and Gabriel to show you how it’s done...”
The me
n shot her a rather dangerous look, and she stopped talking.
“Maybe if we made the turn sooner—” Julian began.
“Why don’t you know?” Devon insisted. “I thought you were—”
“They’re making me wear an inhibitor.” The psychic lifted the chain around his neck. “Said that until we break the barrier, it’s cheating to do it any other way.”
Devon threw up his hands with another breathtaking profanity, while Angel laughed softly.
“Do you want to do it again?” she asked, fighting the urge to say something like fourth time’s the charm. “Maybe this time, I could ride the bike—”
“Where is everyone?” Devon interrupted suddenly. “They’d usually be here by now, slow-clapping, making me want to set myself on fire.”
The trio glanced around the deserted buildings, then Julian took off the inhibitor and his eyes flashed white. He drifted into the future for a split second before going pale as a sheet.
“...oh, shit.”
WHILE THE FRIENDS WOULD never know it, they actually made better time racing back across London than on the training course. Especially considering the countless obstacles in their way.
“Just run him down,” Devon commanded, barely flinching as Angel swerved wildly to avoid decapitating a street vendor. “Julian already foresaw that we won’t kill anybody.”
“I said nothing of maiming,” the psychic chimed in from the backseat, arms pinned behind his back as he struggled to remove the heavy motorcycle jacket. “She doesn’t have to slow down, but she does have to swerve. Don’t you dare encourage her to do otherwise!”
It was a testament to both men’s frazzled state of mind that the retired assassin was the one driving in the first place. Devon had sworn never to climb into a car with her years ago, and Julian tolerated it only because she’d specifically written such a thing into their vows. When she careened around a fountain, tilting the car on its side, they both grabbed the ceiling with a simultaneous shout.
